Spreadsheet Essentials for ALL Professionals ~ Learn to Love Sheets
According to the Economist, 'The world's most valuable resource is no longer oil, but data'.

Data is often collected into a spreadsheet (you've seen the student data, the test scores, etc in sheets) and you need to be able to leverage that 'valuable resource' to work for you and help you teach others.

Do you feel intimidated by spreadsheets? If you answer yes, you are not alone. Many teachers and professional staff lack basic training manipulating data in a sheet. Yet, spreadsheets are a critical tool for working with quantitative data as a classroom educator and essential to evaluating and analyzing data. They are also an integral 21st-century tool that all students should be fluent in by the time they graduate.

In this one hour 'Sheets Essentials,' you will make your own copy of a sheet prepopulated with data so you can EASILY practice as you learn. We will cover these essential tasks:
  • Expand & Move Columns
  • Select All
  • Freeze Row
  • Sort
  • Checkboxes
  • Wrapping Text
  • Filter
  • Split & Concatenate
  • Conditional Formatting
  • Explore Tool
  • Graphs
  • Auto Average & Sum

NEW Digital Citizenship curriculum for you!
We all know that Digital Citizenship is a vital topic to our learners that must be re-visited regularly to deepen understanding.  In August 2019, Common Sense Media completely overhauled their already outstanding Digital Citizenship Curriculum, which is designed for K-12 classrooms. In this working session, we will take a deep dive into the curriculum and come out with a better understanding of how these can be better utilized at your school and in your classrooms.

Empodérate con Google Forms y olvídate de Calificar
Have you ever taken an assessment test the last fifteen minutes of the class? ... If your answer is YES, the next question is: How complex would it be to evaluate this test if you had 20 students?
This task can be simplified using Google Forms, creating an evaluation test to measure the understanding of the exposed topics. In this session we will learn how to perform a self-correcting test, we will explore the different types of questions and review some supplements.
We will also review some ideas on how to use Google Forms to collect data and conduct surveys within the class.
If you sign up for this session, I recommend you also sign up for Google Classroom, first steps.

Managing Email Tsunami with GMail Hidden Features & AI Updates!
Email is becoming increasingly unmanageable!

There are many 'magical tricks' waiting for you to apply to gMail to make it more manageable and ensure you don't miss those important messages. Some of the features have been integrated since the beginning and others are part of the latest Gmail update with Artificial Intelligence tools. Learn how to leverage all of them in this session which will cover:

Gmail Updates:
  • Smart Reply
  • Nudging
  • Snooze
  • Smart Compose
  • Integration with Keep, Tasks and Calendar
Classic features that are often not leveraged or used include:
  • Inbox Types ~ there are two inbox types I recommend.  I'll explain.
  • Themes ~ Changing your theme now and then can lift your spirits
  • Filters & Labels ~ can help you reach INBOX ZERO!
    • Apply Label on specific incoming mail with a FILTER ~ I've got a green label called 'Paycheck' that auto labels when my direct deposit email comes in and is always collected in one 'folder.'    Once you know how to do this it can really help you identify important messages in your inbox and it is automatically done for you if you set up a FILTER.
    • Customized Inboxes ~ automatically apply a label and 'archive' to create custom/priority inboxes for mail such as 'payroll stubs', the tech updates; the school discussion forum, etc'
    • Automatically 'delete' unwanted incoming mail - if you have thousands of unread messages and you want to get rid of all of the 'newsletters, promotions' etc all at once from a particular sender you can search and delete.  However, you can run a filter to detect those incoming and auto delete them and also delete all matching messages at the same time.   This can clean your inbox so fast!
Great for beginners, those never properly introduced to Gmail and anyone who desires 'inbox zero.'

Power up Pedagogy with Screencasting Why & How
Screencasting is not a new concept nor was it introduced with the cloud.  Teachers have been screencasting for years yet so many have never considered doing it.   With the increased adoption of student-centered learning, Universal Design for Learning, personalized learning, flipped learning, blended learning, screencasting skills are not optional.

Why would you learn about screencasts?
  • Engage learners with video
  • Provide alternative means of learning
  • Provide accommodations
  • Give students a voice and choice
  • Flip your classroom with a quick video that you can use over an over again
  • Provide instruction when you are not in class or available for individual coaching
  • Screencasts can provide learners a student-centered and engaging learning experience in both distance and traditional learning settings.
  • Align your instruction with objectives, goals, and standards with your own direction
  • Provide fast formative feedback (your voice and screen works better than a pen any day!)
In this session you will learn:
  • Specific ways to use screencasting with examples and directions
  • Tools for screencasting
  • How to create a screencast with Screencastify

Take learning off the page and into the hands of students in the Makerspace

When we can take learning off the page for students, text-based limitations are removed. Students who may not have been able to write a story on paper can make a movie. Students can code robots to learn and apply new skills while playing math games! Infusing maker-centered learning experiences present endless possibilities to engage students in higher-level thinking, collaboration and problem-solving!
